“You ready, Evie?”
No, of course I’m not ready. Who would be ready to be thrown 100 years into the past? I gave a small nod.
“The future depends on you.”
Yes, I know that. I have only been informed of my mission about a hundred times. I smiled nervously.
“We love you, stay safe!”
Safe, that’s a laugh! How am I supposed to stay safe when I don’t know what is going to happen? I closed my eyes tightly.
“Say hi to the younger me!”
“Jared!”
“Oh right…”
My grandfather could be an idiot sometimes. He knew he didn’t age, and he hasn’t age since then.
“Good bye!”
I was off before I could even respond. At first, the feeling of traveling back in time was great! It was like flying on your first hovercraft or walking on a glass floor! But once I hit fifteen years ago, I began to feel a bit sick. The years passed by faster and faster, and before I could positions myself for landing, I was already landed, face first on a rock hard slab of concrete.
“Abort, abort.” I grumbled as I sat up. I checked myself for any damage. “Dammit!” I exclaimed. I had landed on the time machine and crushed it into a million tiny little pieces. I frantically gathered the scattered remains, scowling.
Footsteps stopped me from my frantic hunt. “Who’s there?” I shouted.
“I should e asking you the same question.” A weak male voice responded.
Forgetting about my broken watch, I dropped the pieces to search my pockets for some sort of weapon. “Don’t come any closer!” I shouted. “I have… A pen?!”
The voice chuckled softly. “I come in peace.” He insisted and I heard him shuffle forward. As soon as he came into the light, I knew who he was. He was tall and fit, with messy blond hair.
“Ulee…” I whispered, staring up at him. I knew I was exactly where I was supposed to be.
“Excuse me?”
“Oh, uh, never mind! It’s nothing.” I insisted nervously.
“No, it’s something. Your time…”
Time: someone’s memory and past. This was Ulee’s special power.
“You’re not really from here, are you?”
“Not technically.” I admitted softly.
“Then where are you-“
“I’ll tell you, I’ll tell you!”
